our approach to sponsorship

We are very much guided by local community to direct us to remote villages and low-income families living in destitute circumstances.

A strong sense of community prevails. We value the input of local leaders, respected elders, teachers and the community to tell us where they want us to go.  They help guide us to disadvantaged families living in difficult circumstances.

Our support extends to all children irrespective of race, religion or social background. Our foremost criteria is that a child would like to go to school and his or her family is supportive of the prospect of their child having an education.

To ensure this is the case families must apply for an Education Scholarship following which an interview process is conducted.

factors we consider

Destitution comes in many shapes and forms and is influenced by varying factors which we take into account. These may include:

  • Individual circumstances - for example, whether a child is orphaned, from a single parent family, abused or abandoned by parents (many of whom are forced to leave their homes and families in search of work)
  • Whether the child is or is likely to be placed in domestic servitude
  • The nature, source and continuity of the family's income
  • The health of the children and their parents
  • Their access to a basic education or health care
  • Whether their basic human needs are being met – for example adequate food, shelter, warm clothing, water, sanitation, healthcare
  • The scale of the family's poverty benchmarked against the World Bank’s figure of US$1.25 per day.
